Our blissful summer lives are OVER (bwahahahahaha)!!! Hopefully, you had the vacations you needed and deserved. Hopefully, you saw a little bit of the sun, water, and sand. And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming!!
Or perhaps you're embarking on a new adventure like me and my family! We have thrown ourselves into the newest new of the new. Amara is now officially studying abroad in Togo! She is being fully immerse (i.e. dunked) into a french-speaking classroom, which is filled with new faces, new teachers in a new school in a new country on a new continent. She came home from school on her first day shrugging her shoulders saying, "I didn't understand anything, so I just followed people."
And that's what entrepreneurship is like, lol! Sometimes we entrepreneurs don't understand the best and exact steps to take. Sometimes we don't understand the external (and internal) forces, which seem hold us back. Sometimes we just don't understand anything, so we just follow people-- their advice, their guidance and mentorship, their support. I have been lucky to follow people like those at Ujima, who was in the news a few days ago because they raised a $5M fund. I also follow people like those at Black Ambition Prize Competition whose pod meetings have begun with great enthusiasm, support, and practical/applicable information.
Following good people while following my purpose is getting me through moments of uncertainty!
Status update:
Cha-Ching! Thanks to the Massachusetts Cultural Council project/festival grant for $2,500!! With this, along with Ujima's $300K investment, we can make headway on expanding our team, filling the content pipeline, and building the Kidogoville app. To this end, we are looking for team members (independent contractors and part-time employees)!! Please let me know if you or someone you know has skills in:
community engagement and event planning
social media/blog/newsletter content creation and management
software development
video/film/music/edutainment production
curriculum design
We're working on a mini prototype, which we'd love to be completed by the time I attend the Ed Tech conference in early October. If you would like to test this prototype and provide feedback, please send me an email (keeanasaxon@kidogo.tv). WISH US LUCK!!
This next season of the new is taking us beyond our comfort zones and, admittedly, I am scared. I'll have to sit on someone's couch to figure out if I'm scared of success or failure, but for now, I need to channel my nerves into useful directions. It's a good thing that I am also excited, hopeful, and purpose-driven.
A Kidogo Rec:
Ms. Monie (Monie for Kids) seems really cute, fun, and well done. I first caught wind of her on Instagram.
For the Kids, for the Culture,
Keeana
